CLEANING COPPER AND BRASS JEWELRY
Tarnish/Patina
Some like to see jewelry wear.
I personally love to see my copper rings changing colour. Brass not so much 😅 but the antique look works for some styles.
I have sold some Brass and Copper pieces over this year & I'm sure many are worried about tarnish. Well seeing as the pieces are Brass and Copper they can be cleaned 😃 these are some methods I have tried that worked. (Soap & water, tomato ketchup,Lime/Lemon juice)
Light clean:
Hand soap & water, rinse. Then dry
Heavier clean:
🍅Tomato ketchup/juice/paste
Apply thin layer on jewellery piece & leave on for an hour or less if it's a pair of thin earrings. Wash off ketchup etc & wipe dry ✨
🍋Lemon or lime juice
Put the piece in the pure juice immerse it or spray it and leave for less than a minute. Rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly.
I find with just lime/lemon juice the copper still tarnishes again pretty quickly.
- Another 🍋recipe involves making lime/lemon juice mixed with baking soda into a paste and coating the piece with it. Then washing it off with warm water.
If you have no baking soda then you can use salt directly on the lemon/like rind and rub the piece.
✨Here is a link to cleaning brass jewelry using Vinegar
It also mentions a final step where you can put a natural sealer on the piece. Olive oil or renaissance wax once it has dried :)
