My life: Update-ish

Okay so y'all won't believe. Well you prob can if you have read some of my first few posts ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…
My laptop died.
I know I know.
I barely had anything to do with it. A lot of these led up to this eclipse actually but I don't wanna talk about it just yet.

I plan to post again here in September so I'll be working on my wee phone to make that post. Just will take a bit longer since my phone is smol & the post I had drafted is kinda big.

Can I ask you to bear with me again? <3

Cleaning Copper and Brass Jewelry

CLEANING COPPER AND BRASS JEWELRY

Tarnish/Patina

Some like to see jewelry wear.
I personally love to see my copper rings changing colour. Brass not so much ๐Ÿ˜… but the antique look works for some styles.

I have sold some Brass and Copper pieces over this year & I'm sure many are worried about tarnish. Well seeing as the pieces are Brass and Copper they can be cleaned ๐Ÿ˜ƒ these are some methods I have tried that worked. (Soap & water, tomato ketchup,Lime/Lemon juice)

Cleaning methods:

Light clean:

Hand soap & water, rinse. Then dry

Heavier clean:

๐Ÿ…Tomato ketchup/juice/paste
Apply thin layer on jewellery piece & leave on for an hour or less if it's a pair of thin earrings. Wash off ketchup etc & wipe dry ✨

๐Ÿ‹Lemon or lime juice
Put the piece in the pure juice immerse it or spray it and leave for less than a minute. Rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly.
I find with just lime/lemon juice the copper still tarnishes again pretty quickly.
- Another ๐Ÿ‹recipe involves making lime/lemon juice mixed with baking soda into a paste and coating the piece with it. Then washing it off with warm water.
If you have no baking soda then you can use salt directly on the lemon/like rind and rub the piece.

Here is a link to an extensive article with pictures
 Cleaning brass
✨Here is a link to cleaning brass jewelry using Vinegar
It also mentions a final step where you can put a natural sealer on the piece. Olive oil or renaissance wax once it has dried :)

Pantone's Colour of the Year 2017: Greenery

Greenery

Image result for pantone color of the year 2017

cr. R.Allum 2015

If you've been following the Pantone hype you know that they match up other colours with the colour of the year. I'm not getting into that but do keep scrolling for outfit inspiration! ^_^

Greenery, it's self explanatory name and color. Greenery, grass, leaves, nature. Not the rich, dark green of a northern forest but more like the the new leaves of a mango tree. The colour of macha I'd say to be exact. The range is that of light to med-light yellow greens.

Green is a colour that has been proven to improve mood. This is why looking out the car window on a long drive out of the city can be so calming.
Light green can symbolise a fresh start or new beginning. Like the new growth of a mango tree.
Green is also synonymous with prosperity for some crystal meanings so may this year be just that! It also applies to the heart chakra so let there be love! World love :3

Pantone chose this colour because they wish to boost the mood of the world. Hopefully fashion bloggers and retailers embrace the colour and we see a shift from constant neutrals and metallics in everyday wear. Bring Back Colourrr! Maybe in Spring there'll be a change :D

Personally I would have gone with another jewel tone/name like Peridot/Olivine but we had Rose Quartz last year sooo... :'D

Here's to green! and nature inspired outfits!

I whipped up some quick outfits from H&M.

Ring Meanings: Which finger?

Ring Bling Bling!

We have ten fingers shared between two hands. If you have more or less than that please forgive me.
I made this post to go with all the rings I made recently.
Check out my new rings available on Instagram :D New Rings!
[All photographs belong to me unless stated otherwise. Please do not use photos or replicate any designs without permission and credit]

To explain the meanings of the fingers we should get a general idea of what the two hands may symbolise. This is based on dominance obviously, since most people are right hand dominant that is how the info will be presented.
If you are left-handed then switch it.
If you are ambidextrous lucky you :D but I don't think the specifications of Left or Right will apply.

Left Hand (non-dominant)
The "Princess-hand" I only learned this term recently.
The weaker hand, a little less coordinated but can still perform regular tasks.
Meanings
Character and beliefs, Faith

Right Hand (dominant)
Main hand, main squeeze, my right hand...hand(man) ahaha I'm corny. :D
The stronger hand, throws straight, superhand.. damn you so coordinated. Write that 4 page essay in 30mins.
Meanings
The physical hand, greater visibility, Will

The Thumb

A ring on the thumb can symbolise many different things among which are freedom, strength, courage, willpower, individualism and independence. A strong finger separate from the other fingers and this may be how the various meanings came about.

Separated/Divorced women in some cultures wear right thumb rings.
Gay persons may wear thumb rings to portray their orientation in some societies.
For men a thumb ring can show wealth depending on the thickness of the band.

In palmistry: a ring on the right thumb expresses rationality and independence. Fortune, Academic success(Chinese)

So if you are an independent, logical person you may be drawn to thumb rings.

The Pointer/Index/Forefinger

One of the stronger fingers it is associated with goals and ambition.
We use it to point at things, to say what we want or show a direction.

Like the things it does a ring here can symbolise desire for success or that the wearer is driven and ambitious or even possesses leadership qualities(right hand).
A ring on this finger can also aid in focus.

In palmistry: Spirituality, Confidence, Ambition, Ego. Desire for domination/power/enterprise(Chinese)

If you have a goal or want to become more driven or just have a focal piece, a ring on this finger is best. My right index finger is one of my favourite fingers for rings. A ring here will always be seen.

The Middle Finger

The centre of the fingers, it represents self. Purpose. Masculine in nature. A bit beat up if you write a lot without protection :(
A meaningful ring is suggested for this finger. Something that tells of your persona; a Birthstone,a custom piece, a quirky piece or an impulse buy that you had to have.
For men a simple ring is suggested.

In palmistry: Responsibility, Discipline, Balance, Destiny(Chinese)

This is a nice spot for a ring that doesn't tarnish since it will be getting much abrasion.

The Fourth/Ring Finger

The finger of loveee and commitment. A little weaker than the rest for most people.

When you think of the types of rings that are worn on the Ring finger the meaning comes to light.
Chastity, Promise, Engagement and Wedding rings are worn on this finger.
It's a pretty important finger when it comes to symbolism so to avoid any *gasps* "You're engaged!" I suggest wearing an obvious non-engagement ring. Stay away from clear, focal, gem-cut stones or plain bands. Wear a creative or obviously handmade piece on this finger.

In palmistry: Creativity, Emotional expression. Lover/Family ties(Chinese)

The Little/Pinky Finger

The smallest, the baby finger. You made promises with it as a child. Very important in piano playing or drawing/painting (speaking from experience)

Like the Index this finger can serve as a place for a focal piece or statement piece, a flashy thing. It will be seen by people looking at you from afar.
Certain professions wear rings from their school on their pinky fingers. A ring on this finger may also symbolise someone that is gay in some beliefs.

In palmistry: Intelligence, Intuition, Communication, Persuasion, Children/Younger generation(Chinese)

Anyone remembers Dr.Evil and his pinky finger? ^o^

Decisions

It's almost like I post once a year :'( sorry. It was an empty promise :(

Blame my current disinterest in materialistic things. I don't really feel like laying out clothes... taking pictures take so long by myself T.T

This is why I tried to be more active on Instagram, posting makeup looks. My interests have shifted a bit or rather they have expanded.

UPDATE 8:50pm
Maybe I should close this blog...

UPDATE 8:59pm

I don't think I can do it though.

I just gotta manage my time a bit better.

UPDATE 9:01pm

I'll start afresh. I won't post any of the old drafts I have. I will start from scratch with a new take. Maybe not much clothes, just my faves. :D
Well not complete scratch. I'm leaving my old posts xD

Change is Imminent

Tobago 2016 R.Allum

I have changed, we all change. I still love beauty and fashion but currently I cannot give as much thought to it as I used to with what the world is going through.  My eyes aren't blind and my inner-self says that there are more pressing things I can write on than what I wear and where to buy what I wore :s I will try to update here soon. I have many drafts that just need to be completed so I will try my best to update soon. Not an empty promise this time :'D On a less deep note, I went to Tobago again this year and had no phone casualties xD

Pantone's colour of the year: Marsala

What is Marsala? You may be asking yourself. Basically it's a dark red with milk chocolate hues.
It's a type of wine and I gather that the colour itself was derived from the colour of this wine.

(All rights to respective photographers)
Top two pics are of a lipstick I made in the excitement of finding out about Marsala :3

The top colours they (Pantone) have stated in reverse order:

Aquamarine in it's lightest shade

Scuba blue which is turquoise

Lucite green just think hospital scrubs

Classic blue is almost a jean blue, think the blues and that's the colour

Toasted almond is a beige brown colour, similar to blush

Strawberry ice is a dusty pink frosting colour. Best way to describe it

Tangerine is a muted orange close to peach. The opposite of lucite green

Custard is a light yellow with greys

Glacier grey well this was actually the last "colour" and it's light grey nothing much to say about it besides it has pink tones

Last but not least Marsala...the red of the year, a red-brown colour that is perfect for an accessory or an entire dress. Flattering on most skintones but not easily acquired, perhaps in this year we will be able to snag some pieces in this colour.

Here is a link to Pantone's website to a page where they tell you the respective colours they chose for fall but of course you don't have to follow that ;)

How to get Luscious Lips

After a question on Instagram I had the inspiration to post some lip care information. In all honesty Michelle Phan has a pretty good video about it but I will write some things I personally have noticed and taken note of when caring for my lips. ๐Ÿ‘„
So I'll deal with:
1) Colour
2) Texture
3) Protection

Which is all you need to know about the lips on your face. I have seriously dry lips that chap easily and blister and get dark easily ๐Ÿ‘€ Care is the most important thing about any part of your body so if you have any of these issues let's begin.

1) Colour
No not as in lipsticks but for those who want to achieve the "pink lip" let me do you a favour... check your baby pictures and childhood pictures and see if your lips were ever ''pink''. Once you were a healthy individual take note of the colour of your lips. Not everyone has pink lips naturally, some people have brown lips, some pink, some red, some peach and some have mauve coloured. There are prob other colours that I'm missing but the point of the matter is pink lips are not the only colour of lips naturally.
So now if you know your lip colour/s and have noticed discolourations occurring this is for you.

Dark lips:
NOTE: the sun can tan your lips
-If you smoke, then stop... It's not good for any part of your body.
Some lipsticks may darken your lips, not necessarily dark shades but for me the Wet n Wild matte long lasting lipsticks darken my lips.
-If you barely drink water then drink more as this hydrates the body better giving brighter skin. 6-8 glasses depending on your weight. (This is my problem)

Home remedy: Use a mixture of baking soda and water as a paste and gently scrub your lips once every two weeks. Apply a moisturizing lip balm or petroleum jelly (Vaseline) after.

Pale lips:
Smile more often or press your lips together to get the blood circulating and eat iron rich foods.

Blotchy lips:
Some of us bit our blistered lips to the point of scarring ๐Ÿ˜ญ so all we can do is take good care of them and moisturize.

2) Texture
For the often lip peelers out thereee (me) or anyone with wrinkly lips.
These steps may be hard to keep up but do try, some of them cross with 1)Colour.
Smoother lips:
Exfoliate. Like everywhere else on the body, exfoliation is needed to keep us polished.

Home remedy: Use a mixture of brown sugar and olive oil or honey and create a lip scrub. An alternative is using a damp cloth after taking a shower and rubbing off excess skin gently. Use this whenever you notice your lips texture have become uneven.
Wrinkly lips:
This could be genetic or due to poor hydration. Drink more water and if they're still creased then you can do a scrub with a soft toothbrush to plump them up. More on this in 3)Protection
Here is a pic of my lips before and after a toothbrush scrub with a lip colour on. They're still swollen in the pic below but the application of the lip crayon is smooth and not globby like the before pic. You can barely see the lines on my lips unlike the before pic.

3) Protection
"Prevention is better than cure" and it's true for most things. If you want luscious lips you have to protect them from all there is to harm them.
The sun can darken your lips and cause wrinkles just like on any other part of your body so always wear a lip balm with SPF, especially if you like sheer gloss or bare make-up. If you wear opaque/thick lipsticks you have some level of protection from the darkening at least.
The wind if too cold or if the air is dry then your lips may chap, so use lip balm under your lipsticks and glosses or just use some Vaseline(petroleum jelly) alone to retain moisture and minimize loss to the air.
*Lipsticks can be harmful too, throw out old lipsticks to avoid an infection and stop using lipsticks which darken your lips. Any lipstick that dries out your lips like the long lasting ones are not worth it no matter the colour and lasting pay off, you'll be paying for that the next couple of days.
Protection is key to nice looking lips so try your best with this section

My lips without lipstick only clear gloss :*

Your lips are a good indication of your overall health and I suppose that is why everyone wants baby pink lips but the reality is that not everyone can achieve that pink colour and not everyone likes pink lips (guys) So your best bet is to take care of what you got so anytime you go makeup-less your lips will be luscious, supple and shiny!๐Ÿ˜˜ chu~

Hard work

(Preview!)
I'm working very hard to produce three new posts soon, a beauty post and 2 fashion posts and maybe a shoe review.  :D As soon as my exam is finished on Friday I should be hitting *Publish* on my phone. This blogging life is not for the weak hearted, I can only imagine the struggle YouTubers go through. Taking the pictures and getting them to look mildly acceptable then to do close up shots of the accessories so it's clear enough is hard work. Not to mention finding places with similar items online but I ain't complaining. Beauty/Fashion Blogging can definitely be a full time job.

5 Staple: Nail Polish/Lacquer colours

So you have decided to indulge further into the "Girly Realm" and have started buying nail polish. Here are five colours you should buy first! The must haves if your collection is going to be manageable. (good luck with keeping your collection that way)

It's hard to buy polish especially when there are affordable brands like Kleancolor, L.A colors and L.A Girl that do not limit how much you can buy >.<
If you're buying the mid-priced and higher end polishes you probably want to have a few colours you know you will use often. I personally have a mix of both but the more expensive polishes are the staple colours.

Here are the colours (in no particular order)

Nude polish

When I say nude I mean a nude that suits your skin-tone. These can either be pinkish hued or brown or peach even beige depending on your skin-tone. You don't want a nude polish that makes your nails look yellow and icky.
If you want to see what suits your skin tone check out this post by Allure
Flattering Nude Nail Polishes Shades for Every Skin tone

Red polish

Everyone needs a red polish for those fiery feeling days when hot doesn't cut it but fierce does.
Just as with nudes the appropriate red for your tone should be chosen. If you already have a lipstick that is the perfect red for you then try to match it or a shade lighter or darker depending on your hands.

Metallic polish: gold or silver or copper

This is essential for Glam Nights or days on the beach when you want your toes to be treasure.

Black polish

Are words needed?
Grungy week, then black. Chic and Sleek, then black. Busted feet, then black.
This comes in handy for patterns too.

Neon polish

This is a must have nowadays with neon trickling into everything it is now a fad in the nail polish world. Using this for designs or just plain keeps people focused. (if you talk with your hands)
Any colour can work, I personally like neon orange.

Slump Hump Day

Maracas Bay(color invert) R.Allum

I'm having university struggles for this new semester. I have outfits to post but I'm so frustrated I can't find the gusto to take pics of them >.<
Tomorrow I will definitely post something, probably a nail post I have queued about Must Haves :3 .
Then I will do a "Back to School Lookbook" for the Caribbean/Tropical Zones and Temperate Zones or my shoe review of my new pumps.

Hopefully by Saturday it will all be sorted out but for now I'm just trying to live my life and pray all goes well with my advising on Friday.

Look1: A Fresh Approach

A Fresh Approach

This was a very fresh and clean look I put together about 2 weeks ago when I initially got over my chicken pox.
I combined things I wouldn't usually and created this new look, A Fresh Approach which is my mindset for the coming semester in Uni, a fresh start and different approach to studying and my life.
This is a good transition look from holidays to school time and it can even be a liming(relaxing) outfit..

Jewelry: Silver is not the best metal for my skintone but with the right outfit it works well. The earrings are chandelier, slightly antique "silver" ones with cyan and light yellow-green stones from Wonderful World(TT) and the bright, silver bangles are from Ardene in Canada(CA)

Shirt: This white, cropped, rolled-sleeve, shirt, my mum purchased from Bang Bang for me with the intention of me using it for church. A little short but I think I can still use it ;)

Shorts: If you check my post before this one you'll see the story of my green, matelot shorts if you want a tutorial/DIY. Originally purchased at Westport(TT) I believe (R.I.P Westport)

Shoes: Qupid Trench-01 (Nude Pat-PU)
The newest shoes to my collection are these nude, Qupid pumps I bought on a whim in Micles(TT) Grand Bazaar for an okay price. Haven't broken them in yet but they look really good on :3
Will review them once I've worn them.

Bag: The cyan, envelope clutch/ shoulder bag, is one of my fave bags but I don't wear it often. Purchased at Micles for under $100TT if my memory serves me right but the first time I used it a screw from it went missing :( (only used it once)

Make up: No styling was done sorryyy >.< A suggestion is below

Alternative
(Not exact pieces I am wearing(Only shoes))

Here is a little make up styling tip for this look.
-To have a polished yet casual look, put your hair up in a bun or a sleek ponytail.
-A bright, pink lip and fuchsia pink glittered nails add more ''umph!'' and steer the look away from a mint ad.
-A simple cat-eye with a peach wash will do for the eyes and light blush for the cheeks so it does not create a clown effect on your face.

Summary: Green shorts, Blue-Green Bag, White cropped shirt, Nude pumps, Silver Jewelry, Pink lips

I hope it was inspiring. :)
